How we know: these numbers come from not yet published driveways measured by Hello Gravel customers, last updated 2026-11-05. How we collect and clean the data.
How big is a typical driveway?
The median driveway is 31 x 12 feet, about 400 square feet. That's a one-car-wide driveway long enough for one or two cars parked end to end.
The range is wide. A fifth of driveways are smaller than not yet published square feet, mostly single-car pads. A fifth are larger than 1,500 square feet, mostly long rural drives.

Usually 20 to 24 feet wide and at least 18 to 20 feet deep, or 360 to 480 square feet. See two-car driveway size for what we actually measure.
What people forget to count
It's easy to picture the straight part and forget the flare at the street, the apron by the garage, and the spot where the extra car parks. Those edges add up. Measuring the whole outline first is the best way to avoid ordering short and paying for a second delivery.
